History
In 1956, the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department (HVFD) was organized by a group of local men led by Mr. Paul Mosher. The first meeting of all interested men was held at Hollywood Elementary School. It was at this historical meeting that the first President, Otis F. Wood and the first Chief, William J. Huseman, were elected.
HVFD was officially incorporated in March 1957 and purchased their first piece of fire apparatus in August 1957. It was a 1947 International 500 g.p.m Pumper purchased from the Woodland Beach Fire Department in Anne Arundel County at a cost of $2,500.00.
Since HVFD did not have their own firehouse, Engine 71 was placed in Mr. Latelle Thompson's barn. The barn still stands today on Route 245 in Hollywood. These meek beginnings paved the way for hard work and determination.
Construction of the the new fire house began in July 1957. The new firehouse was completed on December 8, 1957 just in time to protect the apparatus from the harsh winter elements. In September 1968, the firefighters and community dedicated a new addition to this firehouse.
Today the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department is honored to occupy our new building located on Route 235 in Hollywood.
Tremendous community support and Hollywood's extraordinary team of fire fighters have made it possible for us to provide elite service to our beautiful community.
