At approximately 0615 hours Tuesday, 10 November 2020, units were dispatched to the 43000 block of Medley’s Neck Road in Leonardtown, Maryland for an injured hunter in a tree. Rescue Squad 7 was added to the incident and responded with 5 Volunteers shortly after dispatch. First arriving units found a hunter approximately 30 feet in the tree, up side down, and hanging from his harness after his tree stand had a malfunction and collapsed. Battalion Chief 13 (Trossbach) established the Command and requested Rescue Squad 7 to assist with patient evacuation. The crew assisted with taking a 35' ladder, rope rescue gear, and additional manpower approximately a quarter mile off the road to the incident scene. The crew ascended the ladder to create a high anchor point above the patient I and utilized the Aztec kit to lower the patient. Once the patient was lowered to the ground, he was packaged and transported by UTV 5 (Seventh District) to the awaiting EMS Transport Unit. The EMS Unit transported the patient to St. Mary's Medstar Hospital as a priority 3 patient. Command was terminated and Rescue Squad 7 cleared the scene at 0830.
Units from Station 1 (Leonardtown VFD), 6 (Valley Lee VFD & RS), 5 (Seventh District VFD), 7, (Hollywood VFD), 13 (NDW / NAS Pax River FD) and 10-03 (Waldorf VFD) operated on the scene.
