By Past Chief Charles Miedzinski (CP)
April 7, 2023

At approximately 1850 hours Thursday, 6 April 2023, Station 7 was dispatched to the 45100 block of Christman Road for the report of smoke coming from the house. Engine 73, Truck 7, Tanker 74, and Chief 7A (Rector) responded with 16 Volunteers shortly after dispatch. Engine 73 arrived on the scene, laying a supply line out from Nats Creek Road, finding a two story, single family home with smoke showing from the roof line. The crew of Engine 73 stretched an attack line to the second floor and started accessing the attic area. Truck 7 arrived and positioned on side A, laddering the structure with the crew reporting to the second floor to open up for the Engine Companies. Tanker 74 arrived, supplied the fire ground, with the crew stretching a second line. Crews worked along side of Units from Bay District, NDW Patuxent River, and Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Departments to extinguish the fire. The fire was placed under control within 30 minutes and was contained to the attic area. The assignment was scaled back to units from Company 7, Company 3, and Company 13 to perform overhaul with the rest of the Units picking up and returning to service. The fire cause was a lightning strike and no injuries were reported. Chief 7A (Rector) held the Command and all Units from Station 7 returned to quarters at 2050 hours.

Mechanicsville Engine 24 handled the fill in at Hollywood during this incident.
