April 24, 2024

On Tuesday afternoon 23 April 2024, units from Hollywood and surrounding departments were dispatched to a reported commercial building fire in Drayden.

Units from Second District Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad arrived first to find a large commercial structure with fire throughout. Engine 61 reported a 75 x 50 one story metal building with fire throughout and advised that it would be a defensive operation.

Engine 72, Tanker 74, Truck 7, Chief 7A (Rector) and Chief 7 (Rogers) responded on the run with 14 personnel with additional personnel remaining in quarters.

Upon arrival, Truck 7 weasled their way into an appropriate position to facilitate an elevated master stream while Engine 72 and Tanker 74 worked to establish a sustainable water supply with other units.

Chief 7A (Rector) and Chief 7 (Rogers) reported to the command post and worked with the incident commander. Additional units were requested to help bring this incident under control.

Multiple spot fires throughout the wooded area surrounding the structure were handled by personnel operating hand lines while Truck 7 operated their elevated master stream for a conserable amount of time. It is estimated that Truck 7 flowed approximately 22,000 gallons of water.

This incident went to 2 alarms with a tanker task force to assist with water supply.

Chief 1 (Bell) held the Drayden command.

Chief 2B (R. Raley) and Chief 3A (Turner) held positions in the incident command system while Chief 6 (Windsor) and Chief 6A (Stroud) assisted at the command post.

One civilian was flown to a nearby trauma center by Maryland State Police - Aviation Command for injuries sustained prior to fire department arrival.
